Jordan Birdwatch in the international congress in Abu Dhabi October 2025, IUCN
Jordan BirdWatch participated at the IUCN World Congress, which took place in Abu Dhabi from 9-15 October 2025, represented by JBW chairman and senior scientist, Dr. Fares Khoury, who is also professor of animal ecology at the American University of Madaba. During a session titled ‘From Practice to Policy: Working towards Rooted Resilience in the Levant‘, Dr. Khoury announced the establishment and presented the objectives of the SSC – IUCN National Species Specialists Group, the first to be established in West Asia. Several other sessions were attended, particularly those related to JBW’s main activities, such as new technologies in species and ecosystem red-lists, and assessing biodiversity risks and impacts of invasive species. In addition to networking with potential project partners and researchers from different corners of the world, the JBW representative joined the sessions of the general assembly with over 1000 other IUCN members to vote for motions which, once approved, become Resolutions and Recommendations, and therefore the body of IUCN’s general policy.
